The French Chapter of the Society for the History of Collecting invites you
to a Day at Versailles: Louis XV and Madame du Barry
on 28 January 2023, at 10hr30 (CET)
*Registration for this event is reserved for members. Non-members will need to join the Society before registering.

La visite est gratuite. Pour le déjeuner, une table sera réservée dans un restaurant ou café à proximité en fonction du nombre de participants (chacun prendra en charge le coût de son déjeuner). Merci de nous préciser au moment de votre inscription si vous ne souhaitez pas vous joindre au déjeuner.

10h30-11h30: Visite de la galerie des affaires étrangères (Bibliothèque centrale de Versailles)
11h30-13h30: Déjeuner et entrée au château
13h30-14h30: Visite des appartements de Madame du Barry récemment restaurés
14h30-15h15: Visite du cabinet de porcelaines dans les appartements privés des rois
15h30-17h30: Visite de l’Exposition Louis XV
Vincent Haegele, conservateur des bibliothèques de Versailles, archiviste paléographe, nous fera découvrir la galerie d’apparat de l’ancien hôtel des affaires étrangères, aujourd’hui bibliothèque centrale. L’après-midi nous nous rendrons au château et Marie-Laure de Rochebrune, conservateur en chef, nous présentera les collections de porcelaines présentes dans l’appartement de la comtesse du Barry. Nous visiterons ensuite le cabinet des porcelaines des appartements privés de Louis XV/Louis XVI pour terminer notre visite par l’exposition temporaire consacrée à Louis XV.
La visite sera conduite en français mais il sera possible de traduire en anglais si nécessaire.
The number of places is limited – please respond ASAP. Once the event is full the reservation will be closed.
The visit is free. A table will be pre-booked for lunch at a nearby restaurant or café so please let us know if you do not wish to join the group for lunch. Each participant will cover the cost of their lunch.

10h30-11h30: Visit of the « Galerie des affaires étrangères » (Bibliothèque centrale de Versailles)
11h30-13h30: Lunch and short walk to the château
13h30-14h30: Visit of Madame du Barry’s apartments, recently re-opened to the public
14h30-15h15: Visit of the « cabinet de porcelaines » in the Kings’ private apartments
15h30-17h30: Visit of the Exhibition « Louis XV »
Vincent Haegele, curator of the Versailles libraries and archivist, will show us the “Galerie d’apparat” of the former Foreign Office, now the Central Library. In the afternoon we will go to the palace where Marie-Laure de Rochebrune, Head curator, will present the porcelain collections in the apartment of the Comtesse du Barry. We will then visit the porcelain cabinet of the Kings’ private apartments, to end the day with the temporary exhibition dedicated to Louis XV.
The visit will be in French but it will be possible to translate when necessary.
