Research group Virtuosa Pars. Politics and Culture of the Iberian Elites in the Early Modern Period (Spain and Portugal, XVI-XVII centuries)
The research group Virtuosa Pars. Politics and Culture of the Iberian Elites in the Early Modern Period (Spain and Portugal, XVI-XVII centuries) is looking for a candidate interested in examining transnational aristocracy (XVI-XVII centuries) from a cultural and material perspective.
The research group promotes the analysis of practices, models and cultural uses of aristocrats and ecclesiastics, both privileged groups, which were fully aware of their identity as the “Virtuosa Pars” of the political and cultural communities of their time. As most recent historiographical debates examine, the studies focus on events related to the political struggle, the culture of violence at court, the processes of Inquisition and the missionary expansion in the metropolitan and imperial spaces. This Expression of Interest proposes to create a project which analyzes the specific aspect of the transnational noble cosmopolitanism as being an agent of transmission of practices, material objects and knowledge throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
The candidates are kindly requested to submit a CV (no more than five pages), a cover letter stating their Research interest (no more than two pages) and a letter of recommendation from their last Research institution.
