Lunchtime Lecture: A Chain of Silver Collectors
When: Wednesday 18 January, 13.00 – 13.45
Where: The Lydia & Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre
Free, drop-in
LUNCHTIME LECTURE: Charles Sebag-Montefiore is the joint author of The British as Art Collectors and a Trustee of the National Gallery. The Gilbert collection comprises many distinguished and well-known pieces of silver. What may be less familiar is the provenance of some of the individual pieces and the nature of the collections from whence they came. This lunchtime lecture will explore some of the collectors who owned items of silver now forming part of the Gilbert collection, including the Dukes of Cleveland, Leeds and Wellington, Earl Brownlow, Earl Cowper, Lord Swaythling and Alfred de Rothschild.
