The Institute of English Studies and Birkbeck College, University of London, together with the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, and the University Centre at Blackburn College are pleased to announce an international conference on the R.E. Hart Collections at the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th November 2017. In 2015, the Institute of English Studies and the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery established an academic partnership whereby the Institute has led research on the manuscript and rare book collections donated by R.E. Hart to the museum in 1946. This conference marks the progress of that research, and celebrates the opening of the Level 2 research and access area at the museum. Funded by an Arts Council England Resilience Grant, research on the manuscript and book collections has yielded extraordinary discoveries. The opening of Level 2 will enable both academics and the public to access Hart’s collections in a secure and comfortable environment.
